Rarely does a movie trailer surprise or shock me anymore. Then a trailer for a film called Greener Grass comes my way. There’s only one way to sum up what I saw: “What the Hell did I just watch?” An immediate second viewing left me just as confused and baffled as I was before, albeit, with an odd curiosity and excitement. This movie looks straight bonkers. Children turning into dogs, women giving birth to soccer balls, one mom gifting her child to a friend…I don’t even know where to begin. Set in the most sound studio version of White Suburbia, with the most saturated pastel colors and hazy glow, the look of this movie is one of Wes Anderson having an acid trip/fever dream. The only thing I know for certain with this movie, is that I’ll be watching it as soon as I can.
IFC Midnight will release Greener Grass in theaters and VOD October 18th.
