Tyler Perry has been a busy man since busting into Hollywood with his first feature film in 2006. Known for his ongoing Madea series, Perry has written & directed 17 films in the past 12 years, along with a handful of acting roles. Coming fresh off his Halloween horror/comedy, Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, Perry has moved onto a straightforward thriller for his next film.
Acrimony stars Taraji P. Henson as Melinda, a distraught married woman, who believes her husband is having an extramarital affair. After being driven to a breaking point by deceit, lies, and a lack of intimacy, Melinda seeks console in a psychiatrist. But when that is not enough, she takes back control on her own terms.
This trailer provides a very somber, gloomy vibe with lots of rain, cool tones, and a haunting score including repetitive water dripping. It appears this movie will be told using lots of flashback, with current day taking place within a psychiatrist’s office, and courtroom. Tyler Perry sets up an interesting premise, with glimpses into the twists and turns this film is sure to produce. The trailer alone had me tense and on the edge of my seat, and I’m surprisingly looking forward to what the feature film will have in store. Just how far will Melinda go to settle things between her husband, and his mistress? Are things actually as clear-cut as she believes?
Acrimony will hit theaters on March 30th.
