I know what you’re thinking: “Another one?” Yes, my friends, another one. Producers Jason Blum and Michael Bay are bringing yet another installment to the box-office-hit franchise, The Purge: Election Year.
It’s been two years since Leo Barnes stopped himself from a regrettable act of revenge on Purge Night. Now serving as head of security for Senator Charlie Roan, his mission is to protect her in a run for president and survive the annual ritual that targets the poor and innocent. But when a betrayal forces them onto the streets of D.C. on the one night when no help is available, they must stay alive until dawn…or both be sacrificed for their sins against the state.
According to Blum, the film will focus on the Revolutionaries and the very first purge, which, for those of you that haven’t seen the first two films, is the 12 hours of annual lawlessness sanctioned by the New Founders of America in order to keep this country great. The film will star Frank Grillo as Sergeant Leo Barnes and Elizabeth Mitchell as Charlene “Charlie” Roan.
If the names Blum and Bay are any indication, this film should prove to be an explosive good time, especially on the big screen. The Purge: Election Year is set for a theatrical release date of July 1st, 2016.
