According to an article by Ashleigh Davies at Movie Hole, this “recalibration” of the series will be a standalone film, staring an incarcerated incarnation of everyones slow walking, white masked massacrer, Michael Meyers. Hell will break loose (…again) when a group of Haddonfield youths sneak into prison to witness “the Shape’s” attempted execution.
“The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers’ case, even putting it before his own daughter.”
After Rob Zombie’s gritty retelling of the classic (which personally I quite enjoyed…others not so much), & the rebirth we all wish never happened, 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection (“Trick or Treat, motherfucker…)”, this will be a delicate ship to sear, & I’m happy to have director/writer Marcus Dunstan, & writer Patrick Melton on board.
If these name doesn’t ring a bell, you’re a silly Billy…sorry… The 2005 Project Greenlight victors, winning with their brutally silly script Feast? The folks who took the reigns of the Saw franchise, writing its final four films? The creators of one of the most brutal home invasion/trap series of all time, The Collector/The Collection? So much faith in Patrick, & Marcus. I can’t wait to see the wake their version of Michael leaves. We don’t know much about Halloween Returns, but fairly certain we’ll have a sticky, blood-soaked, Hard-R rated, good time on our hands.
And while I very much enjoy a good Rube Goldberg, for everyones sake, lets hope Michael Myers didn’t take any engineering classes while locked up.
Casting is underway, & production is scheduled to begin next month.
