When his reputation as the most famous and trusted TV survival host in the world is tarnished following allegations that his show is staged, Tex Montana attempts to clear his name by documenting himself surviving in the remote wilderness for thirty days, completely alone.
O. hannah Films (aka the boys behind an amazing indie zombie flick called The Battery) want to release their survival reality satire film, ‘Tex Montana Will Survive!‘ worldwide, via Creative Commons. What’s Creative Commons you ask?
Creative Commons (CC) license is one of several public copyright licenses that enable the free distribution of an otherwise copyrighted work. A CC license is used when an author wants to give people the right to share, use, and build upon a work that they have created.
Not only does this mean the film would be free, for everyone, forever, but you could even green screen yourself into it without repercussions.
It is incredibly difficult to make a living as an independent filmmaker. A dramatic influx of films on the market—coupled with the rise of peer-to-peer sharing through torrent sites—has resulted in a drastic decrease in compensation for filmmakers across the board. Minimum Guarantees (MGs) are small and residuals trickle in over the course of years. Our hope is that by taking a risk and eschewing the conventional distribution process, the result for both filmmaker and film fan will be mutually beneficial. Contributors will receive an immediate return on their generosity; and by cutting out the middlemen, we will see a higher return on our film in a much shorter time frame.
