Spotlight Pictures has recently acquired worldwide sales rights for writer/director Mitchell Lichtenstein’s and producer Joyce Pierpoline’s gothic drama Angelica. The film made it’s debut at last year’s Berlin Film Festival and will be showing this month at the European Film Market (EFM). Angelica is based on a novel of the same name by Arthur Phillips and tells the tale of a newly married couple living in Victorian London who endures a series of increasingly alarming psychological and supernatural effects following the birth of their child. The film stars Jena Malone (The Hunger Games, Contact), Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs, Tumbleweeds), and Ed Stoppard (The Pianist).
Spotlight Pictures’ CEO Matt McCombs stated, “We are excited beyond words to work with Mitchell and Joyce on this compelling and superbly crafted motion picture…We are confident that distributors worldwide will connect with the unique vision that Mitchell has created.”
The film’s director added, “I’m psyched to be putting ANGELICA into the capable hands of the folks at Spotlight Pictures…They will be effective, enthusiastic custodians of our beautiful and intensely emotional film, bringing it to a wide and diverse audience.”
Angelica also features the artistic talents of two-time Academy Award nominee cinematographer Dick Pope as well as Academy Award nominee costume designer Rita Ryack and Academy Award winning production designer Luciana Arrighi. The score is composed by two-time César winner Zbigniew Preisner.
