Dark Sky Films and Snowfort Pictures have just announced production of the second film in a multi-picture deal with writer-director Ted Geoghegan. Mohawk, an intense horror and action tale, is the follow-up to Geoghegan’s directorial debut, We Are Still Here, a haunted house tale that received rave reviews at SXSW 2015 and quickly hit No. 1 on iTunes Horror.
After one of her tribe sets an American soldiers’ camp ablaze, a young female Mohawk finds herself pursued by a ruthless band of renegades bent on revenge. Fleeing deep into the woods, Mohawk youths Oak and Calvin confront the bloodthirsty Colonel Holt and his soldiers. As the Americans seem to close in from all sides, the trio must summon every resource both real and supernatural as the brutal attack escalates.
The film will star Kaniehtiio (Tiio) Horn (Hemlock Grove, Blank Paige), a Mohawk native herself. Other cast members include WWE Superstar Jon Huber (aka Luke Harper), Justin Rain (SyFy’s Defiance, Twilight:Eclipse), Noah Segan (Looper, Starry Eyes), Ian Colleti (AMC’s Preacher), Robert Longstreet (Take Shelter, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), Sheri Foster (Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), Ezra Buzzington (The Hills Have Eyes, Crossbones), and many others.
This film reteams Geoghegan with We Are Still Here producer Travis Stevens, producer Greg Newman, and co-screenwriter Grady Hendrix, best-selling author of Horrorstör.
Newman said, “We are thrilled to be working with both Ted and Travis again. We Are Still Here proved them to be a winning production team. We’re excited for Ted to take on a real-life horror story that promises to deliver action and suspense to spare.”
Stevens added, “From Rey in THE FORCE AWAKENS, to FURY ROAD’s Furiosa, to Wonder Woman to Jessica Jones, action audiences have shown a voracious appetite for strong, well-written female characters. We’re excited to work with Dark Sky Films and Tiio Horn and introduce the character of ‘Okwaho’ to the diverse pantheon of action heroines who have come before her.”
Director Ted Geoghegan said, “Mohawk is hard-hitting action-horror that subverts traditional genre tropes while delivering a timeless tale of good versus evil. We look to deliver a horrifying home invasion film where the home is North America itself.”
Principle photography for the film begins today in upstate New York.
