The latest offering from XYZ Films (studio who released Mandy, Apostle, The Wolf of Snow Hollow) is a fun kinda/sorta found footage/self shot/vlog style thriller about a YouTube personality who catfishes predatory men to confront them about their disgusting intentions. Think; To Catch a Predator but with no crew or production budget. Just a dude scamming older, scummier dudes and calling them out. Funny enough, I used to watch a specific YouTuber who did this exact thing years ago. I won’t mention his name or channel because it turns out he’s a Trump Supporter…but I digress. It all seems pretty standard, until Benny (the man behind the YouTube channel) decides to up the ante. However, things definitely do not go according to plan and we get glimpses of a night that completely spirals out of control.
This is the debut feature film by Tyler Michael James and stars Wes Dunlap as our main character, Benny. Pulling from a real life internet subculture and niche pocket of social media videos; Low Life appears to shine a light and dramatize the world of catching pedophiliac predators in the modern age.
Low Life will be available to watch VOD on August 25th.
