Thomas Kaiser inherits an ancestral mansion that has been in his family for generations — only to learn that he has also inherited an ancient curse stemming back to the Crusades. Forced into his new role as “protector” — the guardian appointed to keep the evil demons in the house at bay — Thomas must unravel the mystery of the house, while struggling to awaken the beautiful Briar Rose, held captive in a terrifying netherworld seen previously in his dreams.
The Curse of Sleeping Beauty looks like a deliciously dark fairy tale film that combines fantastical beauty and fantastical horror alongside the real world. The curse elements seem to take what would normally be a fantasy movie into horror territory. Original fairy tales had horrific elements that are usually sanitized for children and wider audiences, but this film seems to embrace that darkness to create a dark alternative to upcoming films like The Huntsman: Winter’s War. I’m looking forward to seeing the twists in the plot and how well all the elements work together.
