When successful reporter Jamie (Elizabeth Rice) finds out that her sister has died mysteriously, she travels to Singapore to uncover the truth. There, she discovers multiple deaths linked to her sister and must join forces with her sister’s husband (Matthew Settle) in order to defeat a demonic entity that is using new technology to complete an ancient mission.
My initial impression of this trailer was “low effort Da Vinci Code religious thriller,” but I was sorely mistaken. Things ramp up big and they ramp up fast in this trailer. What starts with a lecture ends with what I think was a demon possessed child telekinetically crucifying an old priest upside down, complete with a barbed wire crown. The effects look really well done (that bouncing baby doll gave me the creeps), and if the clips are any indication it’s got some decent acting going for it too.
The Offering is in theaters May 6th, 2016.
