If you’re not familiar with Neon, they are a film distribution & production company co-owned by Tim League, of Alamo Drafthouse and Mondo fame. For me, I’m almost guaranteed to like a movie when I see NEON attached. She Dies Tomorrow is the latest Neon release, which was originally scheduled to play at the cancelled SXSW. It is a movie about a woman who is convinced she will die tomorrow, and when she explains her feelings to someone else, they too begin to believe they will die.
A very timely movie, coming out when the world is still trying to figure out how to deal with a deadly, highly contagious virus. Intended or not, the movie will likely cause more anxiety now than it would have in a pre-Coronavirus world. The trailer doesn’t give us much to work with, but has some really awesome looking pull-quote screens with large, bold typeface and brightly colored backgrounds. The biggest pull for me is the cast. Kate Lyn Sheil (The Girlfriend Experience, The Heart Machine, Kate Plays Christine), Jane Adams (Hung, Eternal Sunshine, Twin Peaks: The Return), Chris Messina (The Mindy Project, The Newsroom, Argo), Kate Aselton (The League), as well as Michelle Rodriguez, Adam Wingard, and more. Directed by Amy Seimetz who has previously directed a few short films and the feature, Sun Don’t Shine, and has also starred in a handful of movies such as The Sacrament, You’re Next, Alien: Covenant, and the Pet Sematary remake. This movie has so many great people involved as well as a unique and original premise, that I’m chomping at the bit for its release.
She Dies Tomorrow will be released on VOD July 31st.
