As If Home Improvement Projects Weren’t Horrifying Enough…
A man tries to renovate a dilapidated house for his growing family, only to learn that the house has other plans.
Before viewing the trailer, Girl on the Third Floor sounds like a run-of-the-mill haunted house movie starring an aging wrestler who probably wants to avoid incurring more concussions in the age of CTE education. The trailer shows you that there are definitely some tropes that will be utilized, but the gore is getting amped up to 11. The bloody sludge explosion is unsettling, the leaky walls are done right, and the glimpses into the house’s previous life are done with intensity. And it looks like CM Punk might have some legitimate acting chops.
It’s the directorial debut from Travis Stevens (who also wrote it, based on a story by Paul Johnstone and Ben Parker), whose production credits include 68 Kill, Mohawk, XX, Starry Eyes, and more. In addition to CM Punk, the cast include Trieste Kelly Dunn, Sarah Brooks, Elissa Dowling, and Travis Delgado among others. Indie legend (or villain, depending on who you are) Steve Albini, along with Alison Chesley and Tim Midyett, composed the music.
Just please, please don’t let the dog die.
Girl on the Third Floorhas a release date of October 25.
