Another 666-Character Review of ‘The Lodgers’

A gothic slow burn horror film, set in a remote, dilapidated mansion in the Irish countryside. Twins Rachel and Edward live and take care of the estate, but they’re not alone. Beings, spirits, what have you, are living below this crumbling home. The siblings are forced to live by 3 rules. Be in bed by midnight, don’t let strangers inside, and if one tries to escape, the other’s life is at risk. Edward suffers from agoraphobia, leaving Rachel to do most of the day to day tasks. She cooks, she leaves the house to run errands, while Edward sulks. The Lodgers is an overall wonderful film that relies heavily on tone and atmosphere, and some extremely creepy imagery. If you’re looking for paintings that come to life off the walls, or jump scares and loud, sudden musical cues…this might not be for you.
