So far, cold & secluded is a strong theme in 2015, and I’m not complaining.
“After receiving a cryptic message from their war veteran brother, Martin, estranged siblings Ed and Lyla travel up to their isolated family lake house to hold an intervention. But the terror that they encounter within the snowy confines of the ransacked retreat is far beyond anything that they could have possibly anticipated.”
‘POD’ stars Lauren Ashley Carter (Jug Face, The Woman), Larry Fessenden (You’re Next, Bitter Feast), and Dean Cates (Ritual), and is directed by Mickey Keating (Ritual). While the paranoid veterans thing is becoming a bit of a tired trope, this still manages to feel fresh. It’s hard to tell what we have in our hands exactly, but shaky-cam + brutality still, and mostly likely will always works for me. Whether we’ve got a new Jack Torrence, or a something less supernatural, my interest has been piqued.
After ‘Jug Face’ & ‘The Woman’, I’m pretty sure it’s impossible for me to dislike anything Lauren does. Especially her short-lived, & criminally under-viewed YouTube show, “Tea Time with Lauren Ashley Carter“.
Pod will premiere at SXSW 2015 as part of the Midnighters lineup.
