Additional Cast Emerges From ‘The Void’

“There is a Hell. This is worse.”

Today, producers Casey Walker and Jonathan Bronfman, in association with
XYZ Films have announced a slew of new cast members joining 2016’s
upcoming action horror film, The Void.

The Void is an original horror film written and directed by Steven
Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie, best known for their teamwork on films
such as Father’s Day, Pacific Rim, and The ABC’s of Death 2 (“W is for
Wish”).

In the middle of a routine patrol, officer Daniel Carter happens upon a
blood-soaked figure limping down a deserted stretch of road. He rushes the
young man to a nearby rural hospital staffed by a skeleton crew, only to
discover that patients and personnel are transforming into something
inhuman. As the horror intensifies, Carter leads the other survivors on a
hellish voyage into the subterranean depths of the hospital in a desperate
bid to end the nightmare before it’s too late.

New additions to The Void’s cast include Kenneth Welsh (Twin Peaks), Aaron
Poole (The Conspiracy), Daniel Fathers (Pontypool), Kathleen Munroe
(Survival Of The Dead) and Ellen Wong (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World). “We
are thrilled to have such a strong cast of talented actors bringing our
frightening script to life,” said producer Walker. Actor Poole adds,
“Steven and Jeremy are making the kind of movie I wasn’t allowed to watch
as a kid, but snuck into anyway. It feels like we’re breaking taboos with
their hallucinogenic story and sickly genius practical effects.”

Writer/director Kostanski, who has been a prosthetic make-up effects
artist for over a decade (Resident Evil, Pacific Rim), along with his
creative partner Gillespie, started an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign in
an attempt to fund the creature design for the film. Kostanski and
Gillespie will focus 100% on practical effects, drawing inspiration from
films such as The Fly, The Blob, Alien, and Silent Hill in order to make
the film “a compelling marriage of atmospheric dread with visceral (and
practical) creature effects.”

With this project we are pooling over ten years of experience to conjure
up a terrifying film that will combine the aesthetic attitude of modern
horror cinema as it emerged in the 1970s with the splatter and
sophisticated practical special effects that ruled the creature features
of the 1980s and early 90s…We are committed to introducing audiences to a
unique horror-mythology… we are confident that if we are afforded the
opportunity to start our builds early, we can make good on this ambition.”

The campaign successfully reached 158% of its original goal this past spring.

Filming for The Void began on November 23rd in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada
and is scheduled to continue throughout December. The ambitious 20-day
shoot is taking place in a decommissioned high school that the production
team has transformed into a film studio. While no set date has been
announced as of yet, Kostanski and Gillespie plan on releasing the film in
time to play the festival circuit in 2016. Definitely keep The Void on
your horror radar this year.
