Maybe this film went over my head, but I found it genuinely baffling. Unlike a Lanthimos film where the dialogue is uncomfortable on purpose, the dialogue in this film is just bizarre, as if it were poorly translated from a foreign script. Actors take turns mumbling incoherent, monotone lines that lack any kind of understandable, conversational flow. This can’t be an acting faux-pas, as we all know from Get Out, that Caleb Landry Jones can hold his own. There’s clearly a script issue, but the directing is not without blame. I kept waiting for something of significance to happen, and while there were some scattered moments of intrigue, the denouement was nowhere to be found. It was completely without pacing, structure or resolution. I’ll be scratching my head over this one for quite some time.
