From the melancholy opening shots of barren winter in upstate New York to the detail-filled closing credits, We Are Still Here is an unforgettable experience. Anne and Paul Sachetti, a couple who recently lost their young adult son, Bobby, move to a new home in the countryside. The deeply-grieving Anne (played expertly by Barbara Crampton) immediately senses a presence in the home that she attributes to her son, but it becomes clear that this presence is far more sinister. Horrifyingly effective jump scares are just part of why it’s hard to believe that this is Ted Geoghegan’s full-length directorial debut. We Are Still Here is enjoyable for those who will recognize the feel of 1970s haunted house horror and those who will experience that mood for the first time with this film. A must see.
