A young woman in flowing white garb caresses a few ripe and ready-to-pluck buds; their dank crystals set aglow by the sun, hanging in the valley of the golden hour. The score sets a dark tone, there is a ghastly bit of fun, and I find myself excited for what’s to come. But then…the film veers into a more pallid and glum setting — a literal cabin in the woods. Our main character Emma, her best friend Jules, and four other twenty-somethings, form the titular trimming team of Mona’s deeply sus marijuana grow-op in rural California. What eventually unfolds is predictable — spoon fed to us in the very first scene — but the cinematography is stunning throughout.
