When a young woman breaks quarantine to go assist her old college friend in a time of need, catching COVID isn’t the only thing she has to worry about. Invasive, unsettling night terrors seep into everyone’s mind, blurring the lines of dream and reality.
Finally. We finally have one. A good movie set during/utilizing the Coronavirus pandemic. I mean, what’s a better subject than shared trauma that the entire world experienced together? Pair that with extremely creepy imagery, and you have a film that should break through even the toughest skin. I was surprised by the amount of backstory and lore given to this antagonist, and the craft at which everything was woven together. Dreams within dreams, a few well-timed jump scares, and an overall nihilistic tone that will have you leaving the theater full of anxiety and helplessness. Andy Mitton has created something truly unsettling. This film was my biggest surprise of the festival.
XYZ Films has picked up distribution and you should be able to watch The Harbinger very soon!
The Harbinger screened as part of the Telluride Horror Show ’22.
