Josh and Isabel Harris are trying to put their lives back together after their daughter was abducted. They move to a secluded research facility where Josh and his research partner have a huge breakthrough. Isabel is in a mentally fragile state after attempting suicide. The whole situation is tragic, leaving both parents with unresolved grief. The first part of the film builds suspense using Isabel’s visions that could be real or imagined. The middle part drags a bit, but the ending more than makes up for it. The house is a clinical stark white that I expected to be monotonous, but lighting and blood transformed it into a sinister place. The resolution shocked me. The plot ventured places I didn’t expect. Shortwave is a tense film that uses supernatural elements to enhance real life issues.
