Let the Right One In works to buck the trend of pressing tension and constant mystery building that has so defined the most recent episodes of this season. However, the episode never manages to fully escape it, and somehow that failure works in its favor. Rather than give viewers a levity saturated reprieve, Let the Right One In uses seemingly laidback stories to build character in the foreground, while keeping the typical horror fanfare mostly out of focus but undeniably in frame. Most excitingly, it feels like some of the final dominos are being placed, and the second act is moving swiftly toward the third. There’s still a Brandon James era mystery to unfold, as well as more of Stavo’s teased background, and even a bit of Mr. Maddox. But it’s getting there, and it’s doing so incredibly well.
