While struggling to write the perfect ending to his gory graphic novel Slasherman, Todd Walkley decides to take his press tour across rural America, hoping to draw inspiration. When a string of violent murders begin to mirror his own dark creations, Todd is forced to reckon with the dark past responsible for his work.
Random Acts of Violence is a modern twist on the slasher movie. While the film isn’t shy about being campy, it also has some serious dialogue about the capitalization of true crime at the expense of real victims. It’s not a new conversation to have but I welcome its presence in the film. I wish the creators had taken their time more with the third act, as it felt rushed and left nothing to the imagination. But still, the film was a thrill and I very much enjoyed this update on the genre.
