Movies adapted from Stephen King’s work are infamously lopsided. Luckily, Pet Sematary—adapted by the master of horror himself—is one of the best adaptations out there. It was a big one, too: $5 million budget, which included a commissioned song by The Ramones. The story is compelling, the characters three-dimensional. A few storylines that might’ve worked in the novel failed on screen, and there were some cringingly eighties moments that made me want to scream (not in a good way). The soundtrack is delightfully melodramatic. Nevertheless, this movie is as frightening now as it was when it caused me to sleep in my parents’ room for a week all those years ago.
