The end is only the beginning for Camryn, the lone survivor of a brutal massacre in Last Girl Standing. It’s a remarkable dramatic horror, with drama so well done it can make you forget you’re watching a horror movie at all (making it especially jarring when horror does rear its head). The movie follows Camryn’s post-event life; sad and lonely and simple. She goes to work, goes home, microwaves her meals, sleeps on the couch, and regularly wakes up screaming. Akasha Villalobos’s performance makes these scenes hit incredibly hard. Paired with the cinematography, editing, and soundtrack it’s both beautiful and painful to watch. Ultimately, Last Girl Standing is a survival story, a woman failing to cope with trauma and move on. It’s emotional, tumultuous, and a must-see for slasher fans.
