In this sci-fi flick, a “compassionate care provider,” uncovers a deadly conspiracy involving her terminally ill clients and the agricultural drones used to maximize crop yield in a future where resources are scarce. The opening sequence features an animation advertising different models of drones and their functionality, which was a clever way to introduce the setting. While this alone would’ve been enough to convey that this is not present day, this is continually hammered home with self-driving cars, futuristic currency, vending machines, billboards, even pregnancy tests, which felt unnecessary. The drone kills went from silly to delightful, with practical head explosions galore. Hover is a charming little feature with a unique plot, creative kills, and a formidable cast.
