As a fan of all things paranormal as well as Martin Freeman, this film had my attention immediately. Ghost Stories is an anthology horror with segments tied together beautifully by a storyline involving a skeptical documentarian challenged to disprove three “unexplainable” hauntings. Anthology films often struggle with the wrap-around narrative, however, this unique approach expertly solved that issue. Three chilling segments then play out one by one, and were all met with my utter delight. Unfortunately, this is where the story gets muddled. After a bewildering twist, the final act starts stacking plot points in such a way that ultimately complicates the resolution and leaves the viewer pondering several loose ends. An ultimately compelling film with an unnecessarily elaborate conclusion.
