A 666-Character Review of ‘Final Destination’ (2000)

Alex Browning has a vision of his French class’s plane exploding, freaks out, and gets kicked off the flight along with a few classmates. The plane explodes and Death seems to be killing each survivor in order of their deaths. This movie doesn’t take itself too seriously. Its running thread of humor from darkly ironic clues to the hilariously over the top, ominous mood sets it apart from other teen horror films. The Rube Goldberg machine-like deaths kept me guessing and entertained with unique methods and small details. Unfortunately, the acting, visual effects, and dated aesthetics bring it down a bit. Devon Sawa is particularly unlikeable as Alex and makes some of the worst decisions. This film is still the best of the series, a refreshing entry in 2000’s horror, and a fun, cheesy watch.
