This film isn’t quite the blood-soaked thriller I was expecting given the synopsis, however, I certainly wasn’t disappointed. While it definitely falls the umbrella of horror, Camera Obscura focuses largely on the romantic relationship between Jack and Claire. The over-arching story of a war veteran struggling to keep his life together and his relationship in tact during crippling flare-ups of PTSD symptoms perfectly parallels Jack’s struggle to protect Clair despite overwhelming signs pointing towards her demise. The acting feels genuine and organic, with protagonists that are both likeable and sympathetic. Be sure to keep an eye out for this one come June.
