From the producers of the cult-classic Anna and the Apocalypse comes a satirical take on today’s influencer generation that combines horror with black comedy.
Jonty, a failing influencer with an ambition to reach over a million followers, will stop at nothing to become famous. A new start at university brings with it hopes of a resurgence in his popularity when a demonic presence appears in his student house. Jonty decides to stream his and his housemates’ experiences with this supernatural entity to gain the fame and fortune he’s most been craving. But at what cost?
With over 70% of the film shot by the actors themselves, Followers claims it delivers an authentic and spine-chilling experience. Sounds kinda like most other modern found footage films to this guy.
There’s a mix of somewhat fresh faces in this young cast featuring Harry Jarvis (Netflix’s Knight Before Christmas), Loreece Harrison (Black Mirror), Erin Austen (“The Royals”), Daniel Cahill (Anna and the Apocalypse), Nina Wadia (Aladdin), Orion Lee (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi), and Tanya Burr.
Will 2023 be the year of found footage revival, or will these films continue to flounder, struggling to connect authentically to the YouTube/streamer culture? Either way…
Followers premieres on digital platforms in on March 24.
