The latest in Hulu’s Into the Dark series is back for season two, and kicking it off with Uncanny Annie. Directed by Paul Davis (The Body) and written by Alan Blake Bachelor and James Bachelor, October’s entry features an ensemble cast of Georgie Flores, Adelaide Kane, Paige McGhee, Jacques Colimon, Dyland Arnold, and Evan Bittencourt. The brief trailer shows the group gathering around, presumably on Halloween, to play a board game centered around the ghostly character of Uncanny Annie. Somehow, the group of young adults gets trapped in the game and has to play through it to make it out. Think Tron or Jumanji, but with more jump scares and less dated CGI and giant bees.
While not the most original ideas, the concept of getting sucked into an alternate universe is always a solid premise with different avenues to explore (and some unavoidable cliche pitfalls which I’m sure will be on display here). Here’s to hoping the script is better than the featured edgelord line of “I always liked the macabre side of Halloween.”
Uncanny Annie will be available on Hulu beginning October 4.
