92nd Academy Awards: Nominations, Results, & Biggest Moments

Maybe we’re just masochistic, but regardless of the persistent snubbing of horror as worthy of cinematic celebration at the highest level…we still tune in to see who will take home that little golden man named Oscar. And I hope you’ll join us!

Enjoy our commentary below, and feel free to comment along with us.

Byron McKoy

Oh, hi guys. What did I miss?

Elizabeth Talbott

love the shade thrown by Jane Fonda, what the Academy seems to be a good film.

Elizabeth Talbott

love the shade thrown by what the Academy seems to be a good film.

Kelly

DAMN! I agree with you on Renee.  This oppositional relationship is off to a rough start.

Kelly

Yup! Somewhere in the last few months I started inexplicably agreeing more with Jacob, so I need to fill the spot with someone! Based on our opposition re: Joaquin and Parasite, you seem like a solid candidate.  Let the battle begin!

Elizabeth Talbott

Zellweger was also to rambly

Elizabeth Talbott

I’m so honored! An archnemesis? For me??

Kelly

I LOVED Joaquin's speech.  Elizabeth - you might have replaced Jacob as my arch nemesis 🙂

Elizabeth Talbott

Winner of best actress is Renée Zellweger! Kelly 9, Byron 7!

Elizabeth Talbott

Why is he being allowed to talk for so long? It’s a confused mess of a speech with some good points.

Kelly

BAM!

Elizabeth Talbott

Winner of best actor is Joaquin Phoenix for Joker! Kelly 8, Byron 7!

Kelly

I knew I could count on you to yell at me, Elizabeth! I totally see that perspective.  I just thought it was brilliantly compelling and much more interesting. I don't know why, but I just wasn't that impressed with Parasite. It was certainly good - I just didn't think it was THAT good.

Also, totally agree that it was gross that they didn't include Sid Haig.  That's crap.

Elizabeth Talbott

I would love to talk about Parasite on the writers room pod because it’s amazing

Elizabeth Talbott

No Sid Haig in the In Memoriam segment. 🙁

Elizabeth Talbott

I yell at you, Kelly! Parasite is such an amazing film and Joker is a rehash and less inspired version of Taxi Driver.

Kelly

After watching Joker, I'm voicing the unpopular opinion that Joker is getting robbed tonight (especially when compared to Parasite) - you can all yell at me now

Elizabeth Talbott

His love for the other directors and his reference to Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just awesome.

Elizabeth Talbott

Everyone seems confused about why Eminem is performing.

Byron McKoy

Ladies and gentlemen...Eminem!?

Someone get a camera on Billie E!

Byron McKoy

I wonder what the everyday pressures of being Lin-Manuel Miranda are like?

Kelly & I whiff, but the movie looks good.

Elizabeth Talbott

Winner of best documentary feature is American Factory. Some hard hitting stuff here.

Kelly

Now I'm pretty sure I'm having a conversation with myself. Either that, or I'm still doing this all wrong.

Elizabeth Talbott

Also Brad Pitt shouting out actual stuntmen for his performance as a stuntman is awesome. Give them some awards!

Kelly

Seriously.  Why is this so hard for me?

Byron McKoy

What Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth Talbott

Breakthrough seems like a preachy, awful movie but the performance of the song was nice.

Elizabeth Talbott

Wow. An impressive acapella tribute to clothing that went way better than expected.  Winner of best costume design is Little Women! Kelly 2, Byron 3

Byron McKoy

The Oscar for Costume Design goes to...Little Women

And I guess I guessed right, but after seeing Jojo Rabbit, I would have changed my vote.

Byron McKoy

Kinda killing it acapella, but will it beat Billie?
Thong song reference? "I think I'll sing it again!".

Byron McKoy

For those keeping track at home, that's Byron 2, Kelly 2.

Byron McKoy

Kristen Wiig has a cape & I love that.

Plus they're PO'd and T'd off.

Byron McKoy

The Conner's aren't terribly kind, but at least they're cultured.

Byron McKoy

Prepping myself for some Rudolph & Wiig hilarity during this commercial break...please.

Byron McKoy

When Keanu wears a suit, I get nervous that he's going to shoot a few dozen people in the head, efficiently.

Byron McKoy

Quick commercial hug between Tom & Leo. Wonder who smells better?

Elizabeth Talbott

A beautiful performance from international Elsas of Into the Unknown from Frozen 2. The animation on the stage is nothing short of magical.

Kelly

It is insane how much I am struggling with this

Byron McKoy

I don't love Adam Green movies, but I can say I do like his version of Frozen better.

Byron McKoy

I don't have anything to say about Frozen, I apologize.
And I don't love Adam Green movies, but I can say I do like his version better.

Elizabeth Talbott

More representation in film and especially in animation!

Byron McKoy

Byron McKoy

Beanie Feldstein rules, AND is Jonah Hill's sister. The more you know.

Jacob Sever

I’m fine with that first award. Although I still think DaFoe should have won for The Lighthouse...

Byron McKoy

I envy the bromance between Leo & Brad. And appreciate the stunt guy shout out!

Brad is getting emo, and dunks with his last remarks.

Elizabeth Talbott

Byron McKoy

Tom Hank's stars in, "Tie Your Shoes". Still haven't seen WYBMN....apologies.

Byron McKoy

Jeff Bezos didn't seem to appreciate remarks from Martin & Rock. I'd imagine he's perpetually thinking, "I could buy this place...".

Byron McKoy

Sadly, Steve Martin left his banjo at home. Rock and himself take it all in as the first presenters.

Elizabeth Talbott

Awwww. Janelle Monáe sings Won’t You Be My Neighbor from Mr. Rogers to start the show. I appreciate the nods to Midsommar and Us in the background dancers and she got crowned May Queen. 🌸

Byron McKoy

This La La La-ing is surprisingly charming. Let Bree finish!

Byron McKoy

At least Midsommer and Us are getting SOMETHING with this opening.

Byron McKoy

Let’s do this thing!
