This was a supposedly-true-story alien film that took a turn in a very different direction. Though the premise was solid (two friends abducted on the same night, one returns months later but something is “off” with him), the acting was pretty poor and the story just wasn’t as compelling as it should have been. It felt like an effort to merge the sub-genres of alien and slasher films; “The Thing” is a rare example of a successful execution of this merger, but this film fell flat. Without throwing out any spoilers, the ending was somewhat redeeming, which gave it a boost above ‘terrible’. 2/5 stars – could have been worse, but not a must watch by any measure.
