[customfont1]1. PRESERVATION[/customfont1]
(January 9 VOD)
[customfont1] Actor turned director Christopher Denham brings us a movie that sounds strangely like “Surviving the Game,” minus Busey. Initial reviews are mixed, but the premise of running from an unseen enemy that is trying to hunt you sounds terrifying![/customfont1]
[customfont1]2. THE BORDERLANDS aka FINAL PRAYER[/customfont1]
(February 10 VOD)
[customfont1]Also known as “Final Prayer,” this British found-footage film centers around strange occurrences at an out-of-the-way church, and the Vatican officials that are sent to investigate. Could be interesting – hopefully not just another found-footage film.[/customfont1]
[customfont1]3. DIGGING UP THE MARROW[/customfont1]
(February 10 / March 25 VOD)
[customfont1]From the brilliant mind of Adam Green, who brought us “Hatchet” and “Frozen”, “Digging Up The Marrow” looks to be an interesting movie about two men who, in the process of making a documentary film about monster art, encounter a man who says he can prove that monsters are, in fact, real. Early screenings have been met with positive reviews, and a surprising adherence to Green’s request that viewers keep the storyline secret.[/customfont1]
[customfont1]4. WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS[/customfont1]
(February 13)
[customfont1]This horror comedy from the fellas of Flight of the Conchords promises to be hilarious. The plot appears to be a Real-World-esque glimpse into a group of vampires sharing an apartment (‘flat”). Initial reviews are very positive – Frightday is predicting this will be the big horror comedy hit of 2015.[/customfont1]
[customfont1]5. MUCK[/customfont1]
(March 13 VOD)
[customfont1]A crowd-funded kickstarter flick, “Muck” follows a group of friends who escape the evil spirits of an ancient burial ground beneath a Cape Cod marsh only to find an even more terrifying tormentor when they seek refuge in a house nearby. Oh and it takes place on St. Patrick’s Day. Fun![/customfont1]
[customfont1]6. IT FOLLOWS[/customfont1]
(March 27 VOD)
[customfont1]After rave reviews at a number of film festivals, quite a few horror fans are excited for this interesting-looking story of a girl who seems to have ‘picked up’ something after a sexual encounter. Though the story sounds a lot like “Contracted,” the preview makes it look pretty unique.[/customfont1]
[customfont1]7. KRAMPUS[/customfont1]
(December 4)
[customfont1]Michael Dougherty, who directed the inexplicably underrated “Trick ‘r Treat”, is now bringing to the screen an age-old Christmas legend that turns the season into a cautionary tale for naughty children. Bonus – Dougherty also recently announced plans to make a sequel to “Trick ‘r Treat!”[/customfont1]
[customfont1]8. THE HALLOW[/customfont1]
(TBD)
[customfont1]Another movie following the recent trend of Irish Horror, “The Hallow” tells the story of a family who moves to an out-of-the-way Irish millhouse, where they are tormented by something evil living in the woods nearby. Director Corin Hardy is also working on the remake of “The Crow” and his movie career began as a monster-effects artist, so we are hoping for good things with “The Hallow.”[/customfont1]
[customfont1]9. 31[/customfont1]
(TBD)
[customfont1]Evil clowns, Halloween, Iggy Pop, and a Saw-like survival game. Rob Zombie claims this crowd-funded movie is his most brutal yet, which, for anyone who has seen “House of 1000 Corpses” or “The Devil’s Rejects,” is a bit scary in and of itself. Though release is slated for this year, there is no official date – we hope we will actually see it![/customfont1]
[customfont1]9. THE GREEN INFERNO[/customfont1]
(TBD)
[customfont1]Maybe, just maybe, 2015 will be the year that we FINALLY get to see “Green Inferno” – a film by horror great Eli Roth, inspired by “Cannibal Holocaust.” Though the movie was complete in 2013, it’s release has been pushed back indefinitely because of financial/legal problems surrounding the production company, Open Road. Keep your fingers crossed![/customfont1]
[customfont1]11. GOODNIGHT MOMMY[/customfont1]
(TBD)
[customfont1]No matter how terrible things may get, you can always trust your mother. “Goodnight Mommy” takes that trust and turns it into a horrifying nightmare when two boys are left to wonder if the woman who returned home, bandaged after undergoing plastic surgery, is actually their mother. No wide release date yet, but we hope to see this Austrian film in 2015.[/customfont1]
[customfont1]12.SPRING[/customfont1]
(TBD)
[customfont1]If the Amanda Knox ordeal was not enough to scare you away from starting a romance while vacationing in Italy, perhaps you should check out “Spring.” My only concern is that writer/director Justin Benson was also one of the writers and directors behind 2014’s disappointing “V/H/S: Viral.” However, “Spring” premiered to fairly positive reviews at a couple of film festivals in 2014 and we look forward to seeing it this year.[/customfont1]
[customfont1]13. COOTIES[/customfont1]
(TBD)
[customfont1]This directorial debut from Jonathan Milott has received mixed reviews from those who saw it at film festivals last year, but I refuse to believe that such a hilarious concept and such a wonderful cast could produce anything less than at least a decent horror comedy. The students at an elementary school succomb to a virus that turns them into zombie-like creatures, pitted against their horrified teachers. Stars include Elijah Wood, Alison Pill, and Rainn Wilson. No specific release date yet, but this one promises to be a good time.[/customfont1]
