It takes quite a failure in filmmaking to disappoint me as much as V/H/S Viral. The wrap-around story abandons the well-executed format of the first two movies, and only sort of makes sense. The three segments in between—a magician’s deadly cape, a scientist’s parallel universe experiment, and a group of skateboarding teenagers in Tijuana—are meh, decent, and horrible, respectively. Each piece left wonderful opportunities on the table, instead opting for dangling storylines, poor special effects, and unbearable dialogue – particularly in the third segment. Please skip this movie and walk away from the V/H/S franchise with a viral-free taste in your mouth.
