No one enjoys a monster-in-the-woods flick quite like I do, but trailers can be misleading. The true horrors that lie in The Dark are markedly human. I have to give a blanket disclaimer that if you have trouble with portrayals of abuse, in pretty much any shape or form, you may want to stay clear of this one. While not overtly graphic, and tactfully handled, some of the more disturbing events are still hard to stomach. Nadia Alexander and Toby Nichols deliver heartbreakingly realistic performances that left me absolutely aching for these characters. Beautifully shot, hauntingly atmospheric, and wildly tense throughout, this is certainly not a fun or light-hearted watch, but incredibly rewarding nonetheless. This film is so well done, you couldn’t pay me to watch it again.
